The executive staff of The Student Government Association hopes everyone's semester is off to a good start. We know that everyone is excited about the upcoming fall break. We would like to give our suggestions on how you should spend your Fall Break. SGA's top 10 suggestions for how to spend Fall Break 10. Begin cramming for mid term exams. 9. Start intensive research for your semesters final paper. 8. Stay in Cullowhee spending quality time with your instructors. Hillbillies have a stompin'good time at games Karen Sovick Features Writer Last Saturday, the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity held their first annual Hillbilly Olympics, raising $450 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Eight teams participated in events such as the tractor pull, sack races, obstacle course race, and tug o' war. The independent girls team, "Funny Loons," won first place, while Alpha Xi Delta sorority came in second. The independent team, "Crazy Eights," won first prize in the men's division. "The event was to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association," said fundraising chairman Mark Carroll. "Plans for next year's Olympics is already in the works." 7. Attempt to get your Christmas shopping for your professors out of the way. 6. Spend quality time raking leaves with your parents. 5. Enjoy being the fill-in baby sitter for younger brothers and sisters. 4. Remember to call your professors at home for next week's assignments so you won't fall behind. 3. Spend the break cleaning and rearranging your dorm room. 2. Utilize the week by working out your problems with your worst enemy, a fellow classmate. 1. Work for the physical plant col lecting trash to finally pay off your sky rocketing traffic fines. We hope everyone will keep these suggestions in mind during the break. We would like to now give you the Top 5 things Student Government Officials will be doing over fall break: 5. Homeward bound to spend time with old friends. 4. Venturing out to bother friends at other universities with real nightly entertainment. 3. Traveling to Virginia with boyfriend to spend time on the lake. 2. Leaving for Florida with fraternity brothers to baste in the sun. 1. Heading down to Atlanta to see the Braves win the National League Championship Series. (Not to mention hitting downtown Atlanta after they win.) Finally we hope that everyone will have a safe and enjoyable Fall Break. Here, sporting overals and CAT caps, they compete in the tractor pull. Clubs & Organizations on Lavender Bridges will hold their first meeting u October 14. If interested, please contact Eric or Joe at 293-9333. The English Club will hold a meeting Thursday, October 10 at 6 p.m. in the fourth floor of the Music/ English Lounge. All majors are welcome. Please bring a favorite work or an original to share in discussion. WCU Film Society features films that are not from the "main stream". Films are shown free on selected Thursdays evenings at 7 p.m. Both faculty and and students are invited. The next film will be "Pathfinder", a Norwegian film filled with tension about "low tech" Norwegian Lapplanders and a marding band of warriors that capture the protagonist and force him to become their "Path finder." J Public Safety Reports JeffDeMoe News Writer •Oct. 2 -Officers arrested a female student for DWI at 2:03 a.m. Breathalyzer results were .06% and .07%. •Oct. 3 -As a result of the continuing investigation of the sexual assault reported behind Buchanan on Sept. 20, it was discovered that the incident actually occurred at the Catamount Inn. The campus investigation is complete, and information collected will be forwarded to the Sheriff's Dept. and the District Attorney. •Officers cited a male stu dent for consumption of spiritous liquors in an unauthorized zone at 12:01 a.m. in front of Scott Residence Hall. •Oct. 4 - Officers apprehended two juveniles who were discharging fireworks in the Music/English building at 4:55 p.m. A faculty members apprehended the third. Parents were notified. •Oct. 5 - Officers arrested two male non-students for engaging in an affray behind Killian at 12:01 a.m. One of the subjects was also charged with possession of weapons on campus and several knives and billy sticks were confiscated from his vehicle.
