Glenville held an eight-point lead at the half. John's Creek came back in the second stanza and lacked only two points of tying the count, but lacked enough punch to win the game and the Glenville lads won 12-9. Webster vs. Glenville (girls). Webster encountered in Glenville a very tough foe, but managed to force the Glenites to the little end of a 22-9 Highlands vs. Cullowhee (boys). This was the first afternoon game of the Tournament. The two teams were evenly matched and played a consistent brand of basketball. Cullowhee forced the Upland crew to exert every atom of knowledge of the game to eke out a 19-15 win. S. C. I. vs. Almond (girls). The first game to go to the extra period route. S. C. I. knotted the count in the last few seconds of the game and forced the Almond Bars to the extra activities and emerged victorious 16-14. Cullowhee vs. Andrews (girls). Beyond all doubt this was the most exciting game yet played because of the large gallery for Cullowhee. Andrews put up a stiff fight and forced the local lassies to the limit, but the sharp-shooting forwards of Cullowhee led the count 29-23. Hayesville vs. S. C. I. (boys). This was the closest game of the entire Tournament. Hayesville showed signs of weariness, but emerged to see the finals when the Collegians lacked the necessary field goal to win. After a desperate attempt to gain a good margin of victory, they were forced to accept 10-9. Waynesville vs. Sylva (girls). The first moonlight game. The Mountaineers fought the Sylvanians to a standstill during the first half. Fierce guarding and pretty floor work soon (Continued on page 3) Glee Quartet Entertains Sylva Rotary Club A Quartet from the Glee Club of Western Carolina Teachers College, composed of Miss Lona B. Braswell, Harriet Peirce, Margaret Rowland, and Elsie Autrey, sang at the Sylva Rotary Luncheon at Jarrett Springs Hotel, Dillsboro, N. C, Tuesday March 14. Numbers rendered by the quartet were "I Would that My Love,", Carry Me Back to Old Virginia", and "Quiet Hour." Solos were rendered by Miss Peirce. These were "Homing," Sunshine of your Smile," and "Who". Misses Peirce, Autrey and Rowland are vocal students of Miss Mary Rose Feagans, and Miss Braswell is teacher of Piano at the College. Spring Elections Name New Student Executives Officers for the Spring Quarter have been elected by the Young Wo- mens House Government Association and the Erosophian Literary Society at Western Carolina Teachers College. The young women in their association have elected Ruth Montford— president, House president—Louise Medford, Vice House president—Azalea McClung, secretary — Marjorie Pipkin, council members Louisa Rogers, Beulah Rogers, Ruth Creasman, Louise Baggett, and Pearle Justice. The new society officers are S. B. Hutchinson—president, Roy Watson— vice-president, Jane Plott—Secretary Enoloh Arrington—treasurer, George Carpenter—pianist, Dair McCracken, chaplin, and R. L. Elliott—Critic. President Hunter Presents Cup to Bethel H. T. Hunter, President W. C. T. C, made the presentation speech on behalf of the college to the Bethel High School basketball team between the half of the Hayesville-Almond game. The cup was awarded the Bethel team for the second consecutive time and for permanent possession. It was the decision that for any team to win permanent possession of it they must win three consecutive years. Believing this as almost impossible the Athletic Association cut the times to two. Under the new ruling Bethel is the first to claim a cup from W. C. T. C. for permanent possession. When the Almond boys emerged victorious and the time was at hand to present the winners their trophy the fans swarmed out over the court and it was impossible for such a fitting climax. However we are satisfied that the Almond boys got the cup. One Good Turn Deserves Another The following advertisers are supporters of the Yodel. Almond Lads And Bethel Lassies Take Honors The Beginning of the Tournament Found Twenty Evenly Matched Teams on the Local Campus The seventh annual High School Tournament held at the college proved a success both to the school and to visiting teams. The school profited by its ability to handle such a situation and the visitors were given a chance to see what W. C. T. C. can offer to the prospective student. Never before in the history of Tournaments have the teams been so evenly matched, some that were doped to lose and other who were, according to public opinion, doped to win completely reversed the decision. It was three days of the finest high school basketball ever exhibited in the local gym. None of the games, with one or two exceptions, were won until the last whistle had sounded. Almond seemed to classed as a semi-final team with the arrival of the teams but after the first of her illiminating games it was well foresaw that she was a contender—and how. The marked success of the tournament goes to the wise selection of Coach Plemmons as to the participating teams, and the whole-hearted cooperation of the whole faculty with due honor to Miss Maddux for the way in which, all agreed, they were "well fed". The high scorers for the winners were, Bethel, Kinsland 60 points, and runner up, Justice, with 49. For the boys, White and Owensby, of Almond, were tied at 21 all. Referee Brown of Greensboro "Y" called all the games. Below is the way in which they 'stacked up'.
