After the "Live at Red Rocks" CD I did not think there was much room for improvement, but the quality of this live CD is 10 times better. The music is much clearer, and there is a better song selection. "Listener supported" is the best CD of 1999 because it is unique. No matter how many times I listen to this CD, I can always find something new. There is so much going on in the music. Out of the 20 songs on this two-disc CD, 'Two Step" and "Jimi Thing" are my favorite tracks. "Two Step" is a more mellow song where Boyd Tinsley, the band's violinist, sends chills up the spine with his playing. "Jimi Thing" is a more up-beat song with terrific lyrics. A true Dave Matthews Band fan's CD collection is not complete without this remarkable recording of musi Laura Hyatt, Advertising Manager „ Western Carolinian Staffers Choose their Favorite Albums of 1999 Mi4 «, rnir \w:insi Battle of Los Angeles Rage Against the Machine The riffs still kick ass and Zach quit repeating phrases so much. 'Born of a Broken Man' and 'Mic Check' break the mold of the typical Rage song. The poetry is much more complex and artistic as compared to the earlier albums. I'd like to see Rage take the Backstreet Boys out back and introduce them to Guerilla Radio. Jeffrey Sykes, News Editor On the 6 Jennifer Lopez Since I am in the car for the majority of the day, my ul- timate choice is definitely Jennifer Lopez. I want to listen to a CD that I don't have to keep skipping past songs I don't like. Lopez's upbeat mix of pop with a strong Latino flair really keeps me pumped during the day. She always seems to have a positive message especially in my personal favorite songs "Feelin' so good" and "Let's get loud." I have admired Lopez ever since her dancing debut on "In Living Color" and continue to do so as she paves the path for more culturally diverse female artists. Crystal Frame, Editor-in-Chief Beach House on the Moon Jimmy Buffett The best album from 1999 had to come from the timeless Jimmy Buffett. The King of the Parrotheads and his Coral Reefer Band released "Beach House on the Moon," and it's what we've come to expect from Buffett. In addition to the traditional Mr. Utley on the piano, this album includes a wide variety of instrumentation, such as the accordian, fiddle, and steel guitar. From the title cut of "Beach House on the Moon," to the zany wit of "I Will Play for Gumbo" and "Math Suks," the Land Shark has done it again. He leaves everyone with "Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling." Daniel Hooker, Sports Editor
