PAGE 4 APRIL FOOLS DAY, 1974 Trailers . . . FROM PAGE 1 you don't have to chop down any trees to make a trailer. And if you live in a trailer park, you've got a lot of neighbors. You can really get to know'em too—sound carries great through these thin walls. There's plenty of other advantages, too. "When spring cleanin' comes around there's not so much to clean. Shucks, the outside's kept clean by the rain. You could add a little Johnson's Wax, if'n you've a mind to, but most folks don't bother. If an inter- state's gonna be built through your living room, it's not too much work to move it, along with the rest of the trailer of course. Another advantage is heating and air-conditionin'— these things'll get hotter'n grandma's wooa stove in me summer and colder'n the top of Pisgah in the winter—so you got all the heat and air-conditionin' you need. "And you know what else? Why, if your trailer happens to burn up, then you don't lose too much, Not like livin' in a house where there's room for everything you own." Yes, old Charlie could talk a possum down from a tree if given half a chance, albeit rare that he gets half a chance. It was now dark and the wind had picked up to a steady gust. Trailer parks at night take on a strange aura. You can almost see the conastoga outlines and hear the sound of their early owners grunting to put wheels back on. You can smell the sturdy horses and loyal mules waiting nervously to begin hauling their great loads once more. You can even hear old Ben Battle telling his friends to go on without him, he'll catch up tomorrow. But he didn't catch up. And because of that, we were left with the legacy of the mobile home—a bit of the dandruff you find while Combing the Mount- Carolinian News Briefs DEAD DOG The Battle Trailer Park Defense League wishes to warn all speeders in the park that granite-like projectiles will be aimed at your vehicle. This is a defensive measure to insure the longevity of the lives of children and canines residing in the park. HELLO KENDALL COFFMAN WCU Over State ...... .FROM PAGE # I'll knock the sh— out of'em." When asked what he thought of the WCU team which had just toppled his N.C. State squad, Wolfpack coach Lou Halts commented, "What a ripoff! We bin robbed! This gym floor looks like one big divot. Our skates kept getting stuck in the grooves, and the parts that didn't have ridges in them were slicker than owl shit!"
