  • Clubs and Organizations continued... Social Work Club Cheerleaders Inter-faith Council The Social Work Club is open to the students and faculty of WCU who are in the social work program or are interested in social and service action programs. The purposes of the organization are to share social issues and responsibilities, to enjoy fellowship with those pursuing a common goal, and to allow members an opportunity to serve the region through volunteer efforts. Monthly meetings are held to discuss current issues and plan activities. Travel to workshops and conventions is promoted by the club for its members. Anyone interested in the Social Work Club should contact the Social Work Department, Room 120 McKee, or any member or officer. Barbie Hullar will be this year's President; Dianne Messer, Vice President; and Sam Oxendine, Secretary-Treasurer. DPMA Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) is a national organization of professional data processors interested in promoting the services and upgrading the quality of data management. The student chapter of DPMA here at Western Carolina is beginning its third year. Our interests are to get students involved with professional business people and we offer the opportunity to sec where our education relates to our future plans for a career. Our activities vary from local club socials to sponsoring or co-sponsoring seminars of national business organizations. Monthly our members are welcomed at our sponsoring chapter's meetings in Asheville to mix with the professionals. If you have a specific question or interest, the many lecturers, speakers and others might have just the right answer. Locally our club emulates this attitude of professionalism by having speakers, lecturers and guests too. These speakers and topics should interest everyone on campus and vary in the different areas of student interest. These meetings are open to everyone and regardless of your major you will find something of personal value and interest. Please come join us. Student Nurses The purpose of the Student Nurse's Association of North Carolina at WCU is to aid in preparing student nurses for professional responsibilities. Some of the functions of the association are to encourage student participation in meetings and activities of the local organization and prepare for membership in the American Nurses' Association. The S.N.A. also stimulates an interest in the National League for Nursing and its constituents. Students are encouraged to promote high educational and professional standards and broaden the members horizdn individually as members of society. Alpha Psi Omega The purpose of the Phi Omega cast of Alpha Psi Omega is to stimulate interest in dramatic activities at WCU, to secure for the University all the advantages and mutual benefits provided by a large national honor fraternity, and to elect students to membership as a reward for participation in plays staged by the University. MENC The Music Educators National Conference acquaints its members with problems and problem solutions encountered by music teachers. Activities during the year include sponsorship of musical programs, entering an exhibit in the Homecoming festivities, a state-wide conference at Greensboro, and a spring picnic. Student performances are given at e,ach meeting. Membership is open to any student who appreciates music. Cont nued on page 20. The purpose of the Cheerleaders of WCU is to promote school spirit, conduct pep rallies, support the teams and to attend all games possible. Any full-time undergraduate with an overal "C" average is eligible to be a member of the cheerleaders upon tryout. Psych. Club Interest in psychology as a behavioral science, is the main objective of the Cecil W. Mann Psychology Club. Meetings featuring lectures, seminars, exhibitions, field trips, and other activities reflect the ideas of the club. Any student interested in the club's activities is welcome to participate. Lessing Society The Lessing Society provides for religious, cultural, educational, social, charitable, and inter-faith activities for persons of the Jewish religion enrolled at WCU. Call 293-5197 for further information. Lutheran Fellowship The Lutheran Fellowship Organization at WCU provides a well-rounded program of Christian worship, fellowship, service, and education. Although this is a Lutheran affiliated organization, all students are welcome to join. FCA The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a program to confront athletes and coaches, and through them, the youth and the nation, with the challenge and adventure of following Christ, in the fellowship of the church. Alpha Lambda Delta Alpha Lambda Delta is a national academic honor society for freshmen who achieve a 3.50 QPR in their first year of college work while carrying a normal academic load. Initiation occurs in the spring of the freshman year and members are active during their sophomore year. The purposes of the organization are to promote intelligent living and high standard of learning and to encourage superior attainment among freshmen. The purpose of the Inter-Faith Council is to serve as a coordinator for all religious bodies on campus, giving each a voice. It encourages those students of churches not organized on campus to participate in other religious organizations. It also assists in the organization of religious groups. Dorm Government Each residence hall is governed by a residence student organization. Any student living in a residence hall is eligible to become a member of the hall government. The general functions of these organizations are helping with programming in the halls, budgeting, making decisions on expenditures of hall funds and representing the ideas of the students residing in the halls. Rotaract Club The purpose of the WCU Rotaract Club is to stimulate acceptance of high ethical standards in all occupations, to develop leadership and responsible citizenship, and to promote international understanding and peace. This organization accomplishes these objectives by involving its members in a balanced program of activity which includes at least one major project annually in each of its three major fields of work: vocational, community and international. Math Club The Mathematics Club seeks to foster interest in mathematics, supplement the formal mathematics that is taught in the classroom, and promote the professional growth of its members. Membership is open to all persons interested in math and all math majors are encouraged to join. College Republicans The purpose of the College Republicans Club is to stimulate in young people an active interest in government affairs and to increase the efficiency of popular government. Membership is open to anyone who upholds the goal of the College Republicans Club. Developing leadership in you. Building your self-confidence. Challenging your abilities.
