  • TH ECU LLP W HEE YODEL Exchange In State "Ignorance and inexperience make the road ahead seem smooth and desirable." That accounts for so many new and smiling faces on the campus as we launch into new fields of thought. Courage seems undoubtedly to be the keynote of a college education. Let us so live that when six weeks are passed we can look our instructors in the face with a clear conscience. Beware and take care, for they all make Dean Bird do the dirty work in issuing those Love Letters. THE PRACTICE TEACHER'S PLEA Lord God above Look down with love On us poor sinful creatures And make us into what will Be successful practice teachers. Latest reports from our local "They Say" Bureau: Margaret Burgin rode on a street car. Mary Earnheardt really has a temper. Does she use it and how? Nellie Hood Grimes thinks a marcel improves her looks. Frances Ewing succeeded in rating a date. Snowdie has another crush—wonder if it's an Orange Crush? The holidays are approaching slowly but surely! Happy Easter to all. Sabbath Nite Chere Ma; That's more french ma I have returned from church and hurd a pretty good sermon. I jus wush yoo could see the new girls hear. Nearly every one has long hair and black and white shoes and they have been teaching. I think I will let mine grow out. My roommate just charges me ten cents to cut it but I can save that now. All the girls are looking better now for there are several new boys on the campus. As you kno I got my curricula reregistered and I'm a taking mos nigh everything I have had in Grammar Grades. I even had to take arithmetic and I made a good grade on that for my teacher was courting my Brother and she always give me good grades. Miss Veile told me to read some fairy stories and tell why I liked them and I had to lie for I didn't like them at all. I think it is silly to acquire us to take all that stuff. I guess they are doing this to make us have the rite altitude, for that counts more than anything in Practice teaching. As you know Easter is nearly hear. Ma, I want to tell you somethin. The Waynesville Gang has asked me home, with them and I can't decide whether to go or not for they always come back so sleepy and out side of that they are all rite but some folks say they keep lots of noise. You need not menshun this tho. Have you finished my Easter dress yet? I am going to get Jay Walter to send off my order for my hat and shoes tomorrow. I know I'm going to look nice for its gettin warm enough for me to wash my hair. Has your chickens hatched yet? How is Ant Sara and Uncle Zeb. Write soon. Yours internally, Kitty The Teco Echo—E. C. Field Notes Of interest to those students who were here last year was a letter received by Miss Cordelia Camp, director of the training school, from Edna Farmer of the class of '30. Miss Farmer is teaching in the Rocky Mount School. The following was taken from her letter: "During the month of February my class of thirty read 100 library books." "Discipline is the least of my worries, although I have a few individual problems." "I will never regret having joined the teaching profession, for I am very fond of my work. I have reached the conclusion that a teacher can make her work very interesting or boring." Rev. I. C. and Mrs. Stafford entertained at their home the members and prospective members of the Baptist choir on Tuesday evening, March 17. The evening was spent playing contest games. The house was decorated for St. Patrick's Day, and the games carried out the St. Patrick idea. !■■:■■: About twenty-five choir members had the rare privilege of bursting each other's balloons, altho some regained the dormitories with them intact. A delicious salad course was served and the guests all reported a "cute" time. Prof. Madison Gives Interesting Talk Professor R. L. Madison, instructor at Western Carolina Teachers College, had charge of chapel Friday afternoon at which time he spoke about the noted Southern scientist, Matthew Fontaine Maury. Professor Madison is fortunate in having had the privilege to know the man of whom he spoke. In relating the high spots in his life, the results of his experiments were given, one of the most important ones being the discovery that it is necessary for combined action on the part of maritime nations in regard to ocean meteorology. At the beginning of the Civil War Mr. Maury joined the South. He was born in Spottsyvania County, Virginia in 1806 and died in 1873. "In The Jailhouse Now" "Sunday" "Sweetheart of all My Dreams:" "I still remember you," "You Dar- lin'." "Won't You Forgive Me" for waiting so long to write or is it that "You'd Rather Forget Than Forgive?" Do you ever hear from "Sweet Jennie Lee?" She told me "Little White Lies" when she promised to write. "When Its Springtime In The Rockies" I'm coming to see you. "I'm Needin' You." "So Tired" of "Waiting For Ships That Never Come In," but "I Want To Be Happy" so I keep "Painting The Clouds With Sunshine." "Should I?" Or "Would You Be Blue?" "Down The River of Golden Dreams "I'm Drifting Back to Dreamland" via "Sleepy Valley." Now "I'm A Dreamer" "Always In All Ways" "I'm Yours" "Betty Co-ed" Miss Benton—"What are some diseases caused by eating eggs?" Roper—"Chicken-pox." ^-Attention, Students! Patronize Yodel Advertisers
