Thus on December 4. 1906 Alpha Phi Alpha was formed, givingthe nucleus of America's first national Greek letter fraternity founded by black men. From this basis, the Nu Zeta Chapter was founded at Western Carolina University on Mav 7, 1977. thus becoming the first black greek fraternity established on this campus. Our fraternitv can be looked upon as one big family. Each brother works for the welfare of his fellow brorthers and works within himself upholding the precepts, ideals, and aims of the fraternity. The Brothers of Nu Zeta Chapter have worked dilegently to further the high ideals and aims of the Iraternity. Through their noble efforts the Nu Zeta Chapter has established itself as the onlv Alpha Phi Alpha chapter in the state with a house. The house is located across the street from Speedv's Pi//a and beside the Cullowhee tale Ihe brothers will be hosting an open house tonight between six and nine p.m. All students and lacultv aie welcome Fellowship Cullowhee Covenant fellowship Church (C( 1 I is a group of men and women who affirm the Lordship of lesiis Christ, the authority of the Bible, and who have committed themselves to one another in a covenant relationship. 0(1 tiaces its beginnings to the charismatic renewal when in 1970 a handful of people began meeting together on Saturday nights for prayer and sharing. The early years were marked by a transient How of Christians, mostly students, in and out of those meetings. As the meetings began to increase both in numbers and consistency of individual attendance, more structure and well-delined leadership began to emerge. Cullowhee Covenant Fellowship takes seriously the command of Jesus to "go into all the world and make disciples" and is therefore committed to ministering to believers, helping them achieve their destiny in God. A typical meeting is a worship experience including praise. prayer, and Bible teaching. In addition. CC1 meets weekly in small groups in homes. These groups provide a setting in which each Christian can grow and find his/ her gifts and place in the Body of Christ in an atmosphere of love, trust and affirmation. Various other activities provide opportunities for ministry and the development of personal relationships. These include social activities, a Bible study group for married women, support for the local chapter of Birthright, and an outreach to a county rest home. We invite any interested persons to worship with us on Sunday nights beginning at 6:00 pm at Camp Lab School, adjacent to Western Carolina University.
