A remarkable ingenuity has been displayed in songs, yells, plays, and posters. The Library has just received a large consignment of new books, which are now being catalogued and will be made available for use in a few days. The girls of the Moore Dormitory have recently effected two new organizations, The Bachelors' Club and The Smilers' Club. The purpose of these clubs is to promote sociability and provide wholesome recreatioin between the supper hour and the study period. The Erosophian Literary Society gave two very interesting patriotic programs last month, one on the life of Abraham Lincoln, and the other on the life of George Washington. The Senior Play, entitled, "The Wren," by Oliver P. Parker, which was postponed on February 16th on account of sickness, will be given Saturday evening, March 1st, in the School Auditorium. SYLVA NORTH CAROLINA Miss Nettie Brogdon, Supervisor of Jackson County Schools, was called to her home at Maxwell, Tenn., on February 17th, on account of the death of her brother. On Saturday, February 16th, the high school teachers of Jackson County met at Cullowhee in a group meeting for observation and conference under the direction of Miss Brogdon, County Supervisor of School. In addition to the Cullowhee High School teachers, those from Qualla, Webster, Dillsboro, and Sylva High Schools were present. Mr. Lewis Hamlin, of the Class of 1912, now Cashier of the Pisgah Bank, at Brevard, desires to become a reader of The Yodel, and sends his check to the Managing Editor for a year's subscription. Hon. H. M. Candler, of Athens, Tenn., whom our older students will recall with much pleasure, writes under the date of February 16th: "I received this morning a copy of The Cullowhee Yodel, and I assure you that it makes me very happy indeed when I read the alumni notes. This brought back to me sweet memories of my boyhood days, on the banks of old Tuckaseegee, and it gives me a list of my friends whom I had lost sight of. Please find herewith my personal check for $1.00, as I am anxious to have the paper sent me each month." WE APPRECIATE THE BUSINESS GIVEN US BY THE FACULTY AND STUDENTS OF CULLOWHEE. WE WISH FOR "THE CULLOWHEE YODEL" THE SAME SUCCESS THAT IS BEING ATTAINED BY THE CULLOWHEE NORMAL & INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. WE HAVE ATTAINED OUR SUCCESS BY EFFICIENT SERVICE, CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT, AND PERSONAL INTEREST. | The Jackson County Bank § ! SMITH Will operate a public service car and especially solicits the patronage of the teachers and students of Cullowhee Normal School. Reasonable rates, courteous treatment, and careful transportation. CULLOWHEE NORTH CAROLINA OUR STUDENTS' ATTITUDE TOWARD MANUAL LABOR (Cont'd from page 2) the sacrificing labor of our parents; when we cannot look into the furrowed and care-worn features of those who have toiled for us without a tremor of respect and appreciation for all they have done for us, we do not care for those so-called higher things brought about by college courses. Forbid that our hearts should ever become hardened to loving sacrifices and our hands aversed to honest toil. May the spirit of the Cullowhee Normal ever continue to uphold through its students the dignity of work and place its stamp of disapproval upon false pride and ingratitude. Carr Hooper. Ernest Hall. SUBSCRIBE FOR THE YODEL. Fred: "Let's flip the coin to see what we shall do tonight." Jack: "All right; if it falls heads, we go to the girls' dormitory; if it falls tails, we go down town; if it stands on edge, we study."
