The show opens with Amy’s story “Daddy & the Mill Villages,” which is about her father making a good life for the family by working and going to school. She also talks about their life in the textile mill villages of South Carolina. The story is accompanied by “Love Divine” by Jo Northup and Richard Birt. Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is Peggy Dawson of Tuckasegee. They briefly discuss climate change, and also talk about the important role of mulch in the garden, as well as efficient ways of watering, such as soaker hoses and rain barrels. “Watermelon on the Vine” by Jim Greer follows the interview. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks with Buffy Queen of Waynesville. She is a close friend of Mary Messer, who was a guest on the June 8 program. She talks about coming to know Mary when she worked for her mother, and also discusses reading Mary’s book and helping to rewrite and publish the book. The interview is followed by “Grace” by the Children of Zion. On Stories of the Cherokee, Robert talks with Frieda Huskey. She talks about growing up in Cherokee and living on the reservation, and also discusses how things have changed in the town over the years. “Song to the Morning” by Eddie Bushyhead follows the interview. On Down Another Road, Judy continues her talk with Jean Rhodes Carter. Jean shares another story from her childhood, this one about her grandmother’s funeral and her grandmother’s religious habits and character. She also reads a story about her family’s neighbors and her relationship with them. “Rock Island Line” by the Asheville Muses follows the interview, and the show ends with “The Old Kentucky Hills” by the Compost Mountain Boys.
