Stories of mountain folk broadcast: 2013-03-16
-
The show begins with Amy’s story “Grandma’s Apron,” which tells of her grandmother and the various ways she used her apron. The story is accompanied by “As the Deer Pants” by David Bauer. Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is Will Peebles, who is the director of the School of Music at Western Carolina University. He talks about upcoming performances that are being produced by the school. He also talks about ways the music department has reached out to the community. The interview is followed by the third of Ludwig Wilhelm Maurer’s 12 Little Pieces for Brass, “Allegro grazioso,” performed by the Center City Brass Quintet. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks with Pam Meister, who is the curator of the Mountain Heritage Center at Western Carolina University. Meister talks about her career path and how she came to have the position she now holds. “Smoky Mountain Emerald Bridge” by Ron Smith follows the interview. Victoria’s guest on Black Roots of Appalachia is Minnie Jo Bryson Jackson. They talk about how Easter celebrations have changed over the years. The interview is followed by “Standing on the Solid Rock” by Vocal Union. On Down Another Road, Judy’s guest is Kelly Banner of Weaverville. Banner talks about growing up on a farm and shares a story about her sister’s pet chicken. The interview is followed by “Chickens” by C.W. Colt, and closes with “It’s Outta My Hands” by Terry Edwards.
