The prospects of the- Appalachian National Park Association are brighter that ever before. Secretary Wilson when in Asheville gave it as his opinion that the coming session of Congress would be the time to strike and he stated further that if the caxise was ever to be success -ful it would be successfxil this winter. We believe that if the Southern Senators will stand together in this matter as they now apparently da agree to do that there will be very little opposition in Congress, We suggest that each Senator and Representative should be furnished lit -erature now and again just before the winter session meets showing the

Appalachian National Park Association secretary Ambler drafted this memorandum to the president and members of the association. Chase P. Ambler (1865-1932) was a founding member and long-time secretary of the association. He reports that there are currently 163 paid memberships, a mailing list of 914 addresses, and a file of newspaper clippings numbering 960. The memorandum goes on to describe a July 1901 visit to North Carolina headed by Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson (1835-1920) to assess sites for a possible national park and forest reserve.
