To the members of the Appalachian National Park Association, Gentlemen:- Advocates of a National Park or Forest Reserve in the Southern Appalachian Mountains shoxild feel encouraged by the results accomplished since the inauguration of the movement less than two years ago, A Nummary of the report of the Secretary of this Association shows that since the first of January 1900 the Memorial of the Association Was presented to Congress followed by the passage of Senator Pritchard's bill for a preliminary investigation; then the investigation under the direction of the Sec'y of AgricxiLture; the report of the Secretary; the President's message transmitting same to Congress; Senator Pritchard's bill for the establishment of the "Soxxtherfl Appalachian Forest "Reserve"; and the enactment of laws by the States of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia granting the National Government authority to acqxxire lands for this purpose,-- all of which shows that the movement has made wonderful progress^ and the endorsements by Associations, Colleges, Bxxsiness Corporations, individuals, and hundreds of leading news papers impress one as Secretary Wilson says in his report, of "the deep and widely diffused public interest in th4 plan", while all this is a source of gratification to the friends
