By deed properly executed and registered C. M. Moody, with the joinder of his wife, conveyed these lands to the State of North Carolina. In view of the foregoing record title and the said condemnation proceeding, I am of the opinion that C. M. Moody and his wife conveyed to the State of North Carolina a fee simple, unencumbered title to all of the lands embraced in Tracts 307 and 307a. -2-

This land title relates to tract 307 in Cataloochee. These documents are in the Love Family Papers in the archives of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Members of the Love family were prominent land holders in western North Carolina. Thomas Love (1765-1844), was a politician and land speculator whose holdings exceeded 6,000 acres of land, some of which would be purchased for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His older brother, Robert Love (1760-1845) was a Revolutionary War veteran, surveyor, businessman and considered to be the founder of Waynesville.
