In view of the foregoing record title, and in view of Sections 428 and 430 of the Consolidated Statutes of North Carolina, and in view of the above mentioned condemnation suit, I am of the opinion that R. T. Boyd and C. M. Moody has a fee simple, unencumbered title for this tract. By deed duly executed and registered, R. T. Boyd and C. M. Moody, with the joinder of their wives, conveyed this tract to the State of North Carolina. -2-

This land title relates to tract 305 in Cataloochee. These documents are in the Love Family Papers in the archives of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Members of the Love family were prominent land holders in western North Carolina. Thomas Love (1765-1844), was a politician and land speculator whose holdings exceeded 6,000 acres of land, some of which would be purchased for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His older brother, Robert Love (1760-1845) was a Revolutionary War veteran, surveyor, businessman and considered to be the founder of Waynesville.
