  • . February twenty-seventh, 1901. Mr, Frederick Stewart, 30 Broad St,, New York City, My dear Sir:- Ycur favor of the 23rd inst, received, The bill which was introduced into the Senate and House praying for Ml appropriation of five million dollars has been favorably reported by the Committee to i*hich it was referred to the Senate, Our advices from Washington r are to the effect that this bill may possibly go through the Senatt this session, but that there is no probability of its passing the House, Those interested in the bill believe that it will be poor policy to become too aggressive at this time for the reason that the very best men in the Senate and House are with us in this measure and if brought before Congress at the proper time, they all feel that the bill will pass. Tf an extra session is helij, we are in hopes that the matter can be taken up at that time. We have every reason for encouragement over the success of our movement. In fiact, a canvass of the Senate shows that the majority of the members are in. favor of its passage. So far we have yet to find one Senator or Representative who is opposed to the passage of the bill to the extent that he would fight the same, I trust that those owning forest lands in the Western portion of our State will see that it is to their advantage not to dispose of these lands until this matter is settled in Congress.
