You may tell Roy Ferris that Sat. afternoon we visited the house of his ancestor on Throgs Neck, which is near Pelham Pk. You can find it on a map showing the vicinity of N.Y. about 1700 said Ferris and his sons owned everything in that neighborhood – 5 or 6 farms between them. We found Ferris St. and came to some stone gate posts with an old house to be seen beyond them. Roy drove in and we found a rather large old house in bad repair and somewhat lost under modern improvements ! From the tables and benches we decided that

This letter of September 19, 1927 from Laura Kephart to George and Pauline Kephart was sent to "Dear Children." Partially for the sake of her grandson, Roy Ferris, Laura describes in detail a visit she took to Throgs Neck, New York in search of her ancestor's home, the "Old Ferris Place" which was used as a headquarters for General Howe during the Revolutionary War.
