  • The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is unique among the National Parks of America in that it is the only one of the major parks that can be reached from all directions on paved roads. Four trans-continental highways pass through East Tennessee, within 30 miles of the new National Park. Paved state highways lead from these Federal roads directly into the heart of the Park. Approximately 75% of America's population lives within the area represented in this map. Only 32 hours riding time is required by bus, train or automobile from any city in this area to Knoxville —— "The Great Smoku Mountains City"
