Mr. and Mrs. Flemming, who have been running the Proctor boarding house for the past fifteen months, and who are leaving us December 1st, much to our regret. We wish them success wherever they go. 2. Miss Edora Queen and Johnnie Franklin. 3. Mrs. J. L. Hayes, wife of Proctor's Store Manager. 4. Norma Lee, six months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Watkins. 5. Harry Danielson and Clarence Cole, two popular young men of Hazel Creek. 6. This is some job! Mr. Flemming wheeling Mrs. MoreSeld, whose husband is filer at the Planing Mill. Note the broken handle. The stork has paid several visits to Colleton recently, leaving with Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Pate a boy; Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Warren, a boy; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Godwin, a girl. Mr. J. C. Harrison, who has been away for his health, has returned very much improved. Mr. E. E. Ritter is spending this week at Colleton and he is getting his work in shape so that on tomorrow, Thursday, which is the first day of the bird season, he can go out and bring in the limit, twenty- five quail. (?) Mr. A. L. Smith and Mr. C. C. Campbell of Columbia, S. C, were recent visitors here. Mr. F. M. Collins has been transferred to Maben, W. Va. Fourteen MABEN The following poem (?) seems to have been inspired by an occurrence at the Maben Sawmill: "Hold 'er, Newt!" Mr. Pryor said to Mr. Hazeltine, "Now take these anvils across the pond to Jerry, Be careful, because you have to walk, We haven't got a ferry." Taking one under each arm, Mr. Hazeltine stepped upon the plank But his knees got shaky as he left the bank, Then like the deacon's one-hoss shay, < Mr. Hazeltine's knees gave away And he dropped off in the pond. Mr. Pryor of course, was shocked When he saw the poor man go down; Thought, "If I don't get help, Mr. Hazeltine will drown. He started toward the mill with only a glimmer of hope, When Mr. Hazeltine's voice sang out, "I'm going to drop one of these anvils, If you don't throw me a rope!" Half the victories of life come from a confident belief that one is going to win.
