  • THE BARK and H. A. Nuchols, store manager. Others are also doing their parts, but the above mentioned men are a few of the outstanding ones. The new residence for the Champion Fibre Company has been completed and will be occupied by J. M. Smith, agent for the fibre company, who is looking after their wood interests along the Nantahala. . . Mrs. Homer Williams and children of Greenville, Tenn., are visiting with Mr. Williams at the clubhouse. . . Mrs. Jesse Brooks and daughter Alma spent a recent week here. . . Mrs. E. B. McCollum was here recently and spent the day with us. . . Mr. and Mrs. Rockford White, Wharton, W. Va., spent a month here with Mrs. White's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bryant...Misses Blanche and Georgia Bryant are visiting relatives in Caldwell County. . . Fishing expeditions were rather numerous on the fourth and plenty of fish was cooked by the camp fire for suppers. Erma, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Swan, is quite ill in the Angel Hospital at Franklin. We hope she will soon recover. . . Miss Bertha Danielson and Joyce Rogers, who are attending summer school at Cullowhee State Normal, spent a recent week end with Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Danielson. **r Maben -** Heavy rains in this section the latter part of June caused high water and consequently considerable damage to our railroad, haulroads, etc. Bridges were wrecked, but due to the effective work of Rush Cozort, woods superintendent and his men, the log trains were able to get to the woods on July 2 and no time was lost at the mill on account of a scarcity of logs. J. C. Turner and Ivan V. Anderson of Columbus, were business visitors here on June 2 6 and 2 7. . . Mrs. Arthur Cline spent a few days in Charleston, W. Va., recently visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Jones. . . . Roy Rash and Miss Bessie Bowles were quietly married by the Rev. Mr. Ritchie at the parsonage Saturday, June 30. Congratulations are extended to these young people by their many friends. . . A quiet fourth was enjoyed by the majority of our folks. The kiddies had quite an assortment of fireworks, including skyrockets, Roman candles, paper balloons, etc., which served to break the monotony and greatly increase their joys. . . E. R. Pryor, Jr., and Harold Pryor were Columbus visitors the early part of July. . . Miss Hazel Waldron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Waldron, is home from Staunton, Va,, for the summer vacation. . . Miss Catherine Hartley, of Charleston, recently spent the week end with her parents here. On her return to Charleston she Was accompanied by Miss Gladys Goode and Miss Mabel Hartley for a short visit in the city. . . Mrs. J. M. Gragg has returned home after spending several weeks visiting relatives and friends in Indiana, Maryland and North and South Carolina. She was accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bailey and Misses Willie, Louise and Mabel Bailey, of Pickens, S. C, who visited here a few days. . . Misses Elizabeth and Nellie Hall are spending their vacation in Connecticut, the guests of their sister, Mrs. J. P. McDonough. . . Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Pearce and children enjoyed a motor trip to points in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee where they visited relatives and friends. The Epworth League gave a play at the church Friday night, June 22 entitled "Pictures in Song." Old songs were sung and illustrated by suitable poses. Among the songs used were "The Star Spangled Banner," "Tenting on the Old Camp Ground," "Dixie," "The Old Oaken Bucket," "Red, White and Blue," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "When You and I Were Young, Maggie." Readings were given by Mrs. William Chambers and Miss Edith Brown. A small admission fee was charged and the proceeds will be used for the benefit of the league. W. F. Meeler, our community club manager, has returned from a motoring and sight-seeing trip through several states. He was accompanied by his father and the trip was greatly enjoyed. Russell Gwinn attended to the club affairs during Mr. Meeler's absence. . . Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Barrett, of Blackey, were visitors here recently. Clyde and Marie say they have learned to like Blackey but still enjoy a trip to Maben, which seems like home. . . »*- Fitzpatrick -w ■ Miss Carrington Elliott, of Helton, N. C, is spending a few weeks here as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Elliott . . . W. H. Hundley and family have moved to Maben where Mr. Hundley has been transferred. Robert Dillon, formerly of Beaver, has taken Mr. Hundley's place temporarily. . . Herbert Riddle and M. C. Miller are visiting in North Carolina. Mr. Miller went to Jonas Ridge and Herbert to Rainbow Springs to visit his uncle "Dock" Stanley. . . Miss Helen Ship- man, of Beaver, was a recent guest of Miss Ann Huntington on a recent week end. . D. W. French, sawmill foreman, and family, are on a visit to points in Virginia and North Carolina. . . Lester Tucker and son, Victor, have been here as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Martin... L. O. Bailey, superintendent, has moved his family here from near Beckley for the summer. . . Fred Burgess and J. A. Coleman, Beaver store man, visited our store recently. Mr. Coleman, is store manager at Beaver and Mr. Burgess is also payroll clerk.
