Hon Walter Clark Hulda, La July 19th, 1901 Dear Sir, I appreciate highly your kind expressions in your letter of the 13th inst. Again I must thank you kindly for your corrections and your wish to be informed of any errors or omissions of importance in the work published. On page 129 the protest of the Bethel regiment says Genl Martin directed this regiment to be known as the 19th. No such order was ever given it was designated the 11th N.C. Troops (1st Vol) and to put down in every yearly register of N. C. Troops. It is purely a clerical error somewhere I will not pretend to say where it occurred. Think it occurred in Camp when the resolution was passed. I saw the same

In a letter of July 19, 1901 to Walter McKenzie Clark, Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, A. Gordon is writing on behalf of W. W. Stringfield. He is informing Clark of a few historical errors, most notably that it was not Major Graham who was the last man in N. C. to leave the Confederacy. Gordon explains that a month after Appomattox, on May 9, 1864, a battalion under Lieutenant Colonel James R. Love of the 69th North Carolina Troops had a skirmish with some federal troops in Haywood County N.C. On May 10, the military district of Western North Carolina surrendered.
