  • cont. from pg. 1 energy and climate change, global health, human rights and peace, and poverty alleviation correspond to exist- ing partisan initiatives that are supple- mented by the support of CGI-U par- ticipants. These existing initiatives are closely linked to the Hilary Rodham Clinton bid for presidential office. She provides varying degrees of commit- ment to each respective issue. However; democratic candi- dates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and former candidate John Edwards have all committed to poverty alle- viation and climate crisis resolve by endorsing the Green Jobs Core. Van Jones, the mind behind U.S. non-profits such as the Ella Baker Center For Hu- man Rights and the recently launched national organization Green For All, Photo Credit: under image below calls for a US domestic workforce un- der the slogan Green Jobs not Jails. Van Jones was behind the October 2007 Green Jobs Act introduced by Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, which was up for funding in the Senate on January 31st in the Economic Stimulus Package. The Bill called for the allocation 125 millon dollars for thirty thousand in- dividuals to enter vocational programs devoted to training high-risk juveniles, specifically. poor African American youth, and those most likely to be! un- employed as a rstlt ofa! transition from dirty energy producers in order to introduce them into well paying jobs in a parrallel green energy industry. Van Jones is a member of CGI and spoke at the U.S. National CGI Convergence in New York September 26 through Sep- tember 28, 2007. The Green For All initiative can be viewed in light of Bill Clintons per- sonal commitment to seeing the growth of American jobs. On the call, former president Clinton illuminated on his commitment to free trade in the emerg- ing global economy during the last leg Wester n Carolinian WORLD NEWS country again. Thats why I want to put money into clean energy jobs, green- collar jobs... It is clear that Democrat contenders for office in 2008 have tak- en the cake from Green For All, and it is also apparent that the Clinton name is branding itself as a ally of sustain- ability and social justice through CGI in prep for the coming election. Lib- eral voices such as those such as Rep. Henry Waxman, Sen. Joe Lieberman, and Rep. Bernie Sanders have all in- troduced groundbreaking federal leg- islation on a range of climate, energy and poverty alleviation standards, but we hear very few. strong demands be- ing made by their Republican counter- parts. On a sidhal level, climate ac- tion as seen as a pathway out of poverty is being pioneered by the UN Millenni- um Village Project, founded by Jeffrey Sachs. Students from Duke, UNC Cha-. pel Hill and Columbia University have made major contributions to the erec- tion of prosperous villages in Africa to alleviate extreme poverty. According to the UN Millennium Project web- authority, each Millennium Village is sponsored by investing in health, food production, education, access to clean water, and essential infrastructure, [so that] these community-led interven- tions will enable impoverished villages to escape extreme poverty, something that currently confines over 1 billion people worldwide. The message is clear. In order to reach 80 percent carbon reductions from 1994 levels, which is the goal for all developed sovereign nations to avoid climate destabilization, the worst consequences of which will most harmful to the worlds poor, the federal government must impose reasonable institutional reforms on industry, en- ergy, public policy and foreign policy. Largely, students have a great deal of onttol in what the*futute of American : society Will look like and have more power to create beneficent change than any generation before it. The issues are global and each individual shares the burden of solving them. The solutions to these issues are principally non-par- tisan, but it is clear that there is a dis- connection between what is humanly possible and politically convenient for some members of the American bipar- tisan system. The CGI and its corresponding chapters are enabling and empower- ing agencies that provide individuals at each employment in society to make Former President Clinton poses with leading social activists and celebrities. Photo Credit: www.ClintonGloballnitiative.org of his presidency, but contends that free trade agreements that favor U.S. do- mestic economic growth have not been sufficiently negotiated. Translation: we need to strengthen the long-term pro- ductivity of our nations non-service based industries and ensure U.S. non- reliance upon foreign and environmen- tally destructive energy resources. Van Jones also served as Van Jones blog reads, Like the Peace Corps for John F. Kennedy or Americorps for Bill Clinton, the Clean Energy Jobs Corps is designed to be a signature initiative for the next U.S. president. Hillary Rodham Clinton stated at the South Carolina Presidential De- bates that we need to make sure that we start jumpstarting the jobs in this a positive difference in worlds most pressing issues. The CGI also conve- niently functions to brand the Clinton name during one of the most pivotal moments of its political relevance. The CGI behaves as an umbrella agency for organizing around demands set by prin- cipally liberal constituents, though the demands stem from universal global issues. Perhaps U.S. culture has been possessed to think that it is now time for our nations institutions to stand up and go partisan in resolve for a just and sustainable future. The power is in the process. Through CGI and agencies like it, it is even possible that a nations people will posses a rare historical suc- cess: creating institutional reforms that reflect their intentions. The air would be blown over liquid potassium carbonate and the carbon dioxide would then be removed and chemically altered into fuel. Though in theory this plan would work, the problem is the large amount of energy that would be required to make the transformation. The site, developed by two former Oxford University stu- dents, asks some information about a company and then tells what it will be worth in the future. Though the site is under skepticism, it is currently under trials and tests. Chinese factories that produce iPhones for the US and Europe had thou- sands of them stolen and then smuggled back into China. In recent months, iPhones have become a hot item for smugglers. With such a large interest for theft, Apple and distribution networks now understand why there is such a no- table difference in the number of iPhones sold and the number that are actually registered.
