4 WCnewsmagazine Campus Events Base Camp Cullowhee offers Leave No Trace (LNT) trainer course by Sergio Ortiz On Oct. 1-3, Base Camp Cullowhee will give you the opportunity to spend an entire weekend learning what this national non-profit organization is about. In short, LNT tries to promote responsible recreation by means of education, research and partnerships. It also tries to build a sense of awareness and ap- preciation for our wild lands. During this three day course, you will learn the 7 principles of LNT, while you earn your participation card, and you will spend your nights in a local wilderness area. The cost for WCU students is $75 and for non-students is $100. LNT will be at the UC and a local wilderness area from 7-9 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday. Base Camp Cullowhee sponsors skydiving trip by Sergio Ortiz Do you want to get your feet off the ground? Do you want to float through the air? Well, you have the opportunity to go skydiving with the Base Camp Cullowhee crew. You will be flown to 13,000 feet, jump out of an airplane and fly through the air at 120 mph. The trip will be to South Carolina and include opportunities for bass fishing, camping out and, of course, skydiving. However, you MUST sign up in advance, due to limited space. The cost for WCU students is $200 and $225 for non-students. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
