The Catamounts beat The Citadel 28-25 last season in a game that was originally postponed due to the September 1 Ith attacks. 2002 brings many changes for the Bulldog football team. Quarterback Mazzie Drummond, who started all ten games last season, transferred to another college in the middle of the summer. Drummond never cited any reasons for leaving, and the unexpected loss left an already depleted offense in even more trouble. In the Citadels first game against LSU, the Bulldogs only gained 87 yards in the first half of the game. The Bulldogs went on to lose the game 35-10, showing some signs of life in the second half by scoring once in each quarter. This game will be the second Southern Conference game for the Catamounts. The Cats opened the season with a win against Liberty University 23-3, followed with a loss to IA team Auburn. The Cats shut out West Virginia 47-3, in their first home victory with Coach Briggs at the helm. Game time is set for 2 P. M. at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. Natasha Moore scored three goals for a hat trick in her first collegiate match Natasha Moore Named SoCon Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 2, rain shuts down Clemson Invitational The Southern Conference has announced that Western Carolina freshman Natasha Moore has been named the SoCon Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 2. The voting results were recently released due to last week's Labor Day holiday. Moore, a freshman and Fountain, S.C., native, scored all three goals in WCU's 3-1 victory over Florida International on Aug. 30. One goal was assisted by senior Kelly Barker, one assisted by junior Lauren Bramlett and the other coming off an FIU deflection. The hat trick was the first of her career and only the third in school history. "This was a wonderful way for Natasha to start off her college career, " said head coach Debbie Hensley. eel expect her to receive many more accolades in the coming years. Her efforts were a great compliment to the way the entire team played in that tournament. I give credit to the whole team for that award as well." The team traveled to Clemson, S.C. to take on Tennessee and Butler in the Clemson Invitational. Western Carolina's women's soccer team (2-2-0) was set to face Butler University this afternoon in their final match of the Clemson Invitational, but the match was eventually cancelled after a brief rain delay. No makeup date has been scheduled for the match. The Catamounts will host conference foe Georgia Southern (4-1- 0) at 4 P. M. on Friday, Sept. 20 and close out the weekend with a second home conference match against College of Charleston (2-2-2) on Sunday at 1 P. M.. So, you have not seen it reported here? Teli us about what we are missing so we can include it in next week's September "sports in review. " WCsports will be a separate "pullout" section packed full of campus sports and sports club activities. This "pullout" center section will be dedicated to SPORTS! Photos, stories and profiles of games, sports figures and possibly some coaches will be featured in an independent section in next week's edition of WCnewsmagazine. Do not blame us if we miss your coverage! Email your articles/stats/reports in "word" format and images in JPEG, GIF , or drop off your files on "floppy" or TIFF to us at (Tuesdays or Thursdays) to our office in the Old Student Union, room 109. If you think we may be missing a story, write it up and send it to us. WCnewsmagazine belongs to all of us and accepts submissions "by, for and about WCU students."
