SGA Senate Resolution 2008, which requested that the sign be dimmed after dark, and input from many other individuals, alerted campus officials that the sign's brightness was a problem for nighttime traffic. "We had been getting feedback and input from different folks about it, so it was kind of a combined effort," said Tim Jacobs, director of the University Center. AdArt Sign Corporation, the company that originally installed the sign, edited the computer program that controls its brightness. The company changed the sign's operation so that a photo cell installed inside it senses the amount of outside light. That information is then relayed to the control program, which in turn adjusts the sign's bulbs. Therefore, the sign is now brighter in the daytime and dimmer during the night. These changes were made at no cost to the university, and the marquee is now 50 percent dimmer. SGA Senator Chris Ertel, one of the sponsors of the resolution that was passed in an effort to dim the sign, was enthusiastic about the change. "That's one thing that we were really hoping to get done, because it was a traffic hazard. I'm just glad to see that it was actually fixed."
