Harness the Power of the Internet A special course to be offered by Western Carolina University Programs in Asheville in the spring semester will help individuals and organizations learn the skills they need to harness the power of the Internet, the worldwide computer network. "The Internet Challenge" will be taught from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Mondays in Room 035 at Karpen Hall at UNC-Asheville. The instructor for the course will be Lynn Heinrichs, an associate professor in WCU's department of accounting and information systems. A few years ago, the Internet was used primarily in research, science and academics. Now providing communications among 5 million host computers, the Internet is changing the way people communicate, interact and define community. The course, USI 693, will examine the forces shaping the Internet; how the Internet works; tools for communicating and sharing information; applications to business, education and government; and Internet issues and controversies. Students will complete several projects that involve designing information for publication on the Internet. Registration for the spring semester for WCU Programs in Asheville will be held from 3 until 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at UNC As Karpen Hall. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 8.
