What is a preview, but a two minute slot in which a clever editor has 120 seconds to try and make you watch his movie. A lot of hard work goes into a good preview, which is why I feel the need to reward those men and women who made it all possible. The winner: "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" Was it really even a contest? I think not. Well, there you have it. The first annual Movie Guy Awards have come to a close, and I can guarantee that I will never be taken seriously again. But if you really want to know who I think will win the awards at that other banquet then here you go in a quick one sentence wrap-up: Billy- Bob, Ms. Redgrave, Gwyneth, Roberto, Mr. Malick, and The Thin Red Line. Got it? One last thing before you go making wagers on the probable winners. Some of the best movies I have ever seen never won an Oscar. On the other hand, some of the worst films I have seen "brought home the bacon," in a manner of speaking. In other words, I'm not surprised that "Rushmore" was snubbed and "Saving Private Ryan" will most likely win everything it's nominated for. So it goes. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
