I'lM) Page 15 Stage manager of Phoenix Theatre to lecture on Ibsen Director Allen Fox will speak here Director Allan Fox, stage manager at New York's Phoenix Theater, will speak at Western Carolina University Feb. 11 in conjuction with the opening of Henrik Ibsen's "Ghosts" in WCU's Little Theatre. Fox will speak on current activity in the New York Theatre at 2 p.m. and then lecture on Ibsen at 4 p.m. in the Little Theatre before attending lhc opening night performance of "Ghosts" at 7:30 p.m. Afterward, he will critique the plav. TKE Fox has directed several off-Broadway performances including "Brand" by Ibsen in the C ubiculo Theatre and "The Typists" by Murray Schissgal in the Mercer Arts Center. In regional theatre, he has directed "And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little" by Paul Zindcl .it the New Nassau Repertory Theater in New York and "My Fal Friend" by Charles Laurence at the Little ilieatrc in Winston-Salem. Former editor receives award By Mark Wilkins Managing Editor Tony Brown, former editor of The Western Carolinian, has been awarded the first place award by the South Carolina Press Association for the best editorial in anv South Carolina naner durinp 1479. Brown worked as a staff writer and the editorial page editor for the Union Dally Times (SC), before joining The Asheville Citizen in June, 1979. The prize is the only one awarded by the S.C. Press Association that carries a cash prize. Brown will be awarded a plaque and a check for $150 when the group meets on February 22. Brown worked on The Western Carolinian from 1975-78, serving as Editor-in-Chief in 1976-77. He worked for the WCU Office of Public Information before going to Union. A long-time resident of Cullowhee, he is the son of Anthony E. Brown, a Dillsboro resident and a member of the English faculty here at WCU. The prize winning editorial dealt with inefficient law enforcement squads in Union. The editorial criticized the large amount of time the police spent in dealing with drug and traffic cases, while ignoring more serious capitol crimes. Tony graduated Summa Cum Laude from WCU in 1978.
