  • 8 Western Carolinian/December 6, 1984 Miscellaneous Enlightening Thoughts continued from Pg. 2 two different stories Jrom such-and-such person." "We didn V start this, they did." Dodging the question. That sums it up. I expected more honesty and integrity out of WCU's SGA. Perhaps their real-world political practices are surprising because /thought college students were more idealistic and above all that. Obviously, seeing it first hand, I know they're not. They are as subject to greed and power trips as anyone. Knowing about these ignored resolutions SGA is taking the only position it can towards the paper. However, it is the motivation behind its members' activities that I don't like. I also resent so much of this being done behind my back. In closing, I must explain that the Western Carolinian is treated differently by us staff members than, say, the yearbook is by its staff We are up here, week after week meeting a different deadline each day, trying to get a paper out. Anyone who works here must be prepared to put in long hours. We devote alot of time to the Carolinian and treat it like a job -- a REAL job. In other words, this is more than work study. We 're not here clowming around like it's a high school newspaper and getting money Jor a hot weekend. My staff and I take our jobs seriously because we have serious rent payments, grocery bills, and tuition. The SGA order to cut my money will result in the same for my staff and that will put us all in a pinch considering we \e made provisions to live on the money we're now getting. "Tightening the belt" will result in many staff members leaving for belter paying jobs. I realize SGA must enforce its laws, but doing so m the middle of an administration is upsetting to many lives. Take my advice Catamounts. Stay out of the political arena. Try to avoid "working" with SGA if possible. You'll be better off for it. Rampant Onion Cooperative vVarehouse will be opened to members of other buying clubs ■nd cooperatives. We offer basic line of organic foods, including dry foods, herbs, and cheeses at reasonable prices. Warehouse is located in Cullowhee across from Hardee's. Because we produce an inferior publication? Noway. Good writers reporting the happenings on a liberal arts university campus could never bring forth a dull product. Because there is no one else to pick on?Not true either. Cecil Ward has borne the brunt of student boredom in Cullowhee for years. Why then the constant run-off at the mouth directed toward the Carolinian? Simply this. The human mouth, 1 have decided, must tend to seize up if it is not operated often and to excess. Contrary to popular belief, it is not always gruesome things to have one's jaws quit working. Why only two Weeks ago some feminists expressed to me how they felt that if my mouth were to cease up that all mankind would, in the long run, benefit. I had to disagree, but I thanked them for their input nonetheless. A man named Graham Erlacher used to complain vociferously about this publication. Since, he has endeavored to create his own campus paper, which would have seemed the reasonable thing to do in the first place. He put his creativity to constructive uses. On the other side of things, we at the Carolinian have been favored with a number of bright and imaginative titles this year. 'Granolas'and 'bleeding heart liberals' spring to the forefront. I took extra exception to the latter, in that I consider myself to be running out of the right-wing offense, as are several of our staff members. We have also, just in the past week been called animal-haters, which is another matter in itself. I have infinite respect for any animal that doesn't slither, thank you very much. Ask my cat. Then again maybe vou shouldn't, he might remember the time that I tied his legs together and then forgot where I left him. But none of this is of any pertinence. Fanny Crosby film to be shown Dec. 9 at Cullowhee Covenant What the proverbial 'it' boils down to is this: We, the student stall members of the Carolinian work hard at what we do. We make mistakes too. Everyone, whether or not they will admit it, does. We don't mind criticism when we make these mistakes, either. That's part of our learning experience, but it's not the point. Recently we have been accused by various campus sources of spewing mistakes and not even working hard to correct them. We're accused of not working hard enough to begin with. Some people seem to think that putting out a paper is easy, which is their own personal opinion. They're entitled, I suppose. I'm entitled as well. Dear SGA, I earn my pay. So does my Editor and the Business Manager, and the rest of the staff. Nothing personal, but why don't you all slide past your pride and do something constructive with your time. Yours truly, Billy Graham Blessed Assurance! To God be the Glory! Praise Him! Praise Him! The list extends into the thousands, songs from the heart of blind poetess, Fanny Crosby. And now her life story comes to Jackson County in the film, FANNY CROSBY. In this feature-length motion picture, Fanny Crosby's life and testimony unfold from her days as a teacher at the New York Institute for the Blind until, as an octogenarian, she had become established as one of the most influential women in Christian history. Blinded from infancy, when a well-meaning medic applied a searing poultice to her eyes, she not only accepted her blindness but became so adept many casual observers thought her sighted. A friend of presidents, active in the ministry of D.L. Moody, appearing before large audiences nationwide, Aunt Fanny --as she came to be known— had perceptions which, seen in retrospect, were prophetic. Today, more than half a century after her death, Fanny Crosby continues to proclaim a message both valid and compelling. George Beverly Shea and the "Back to the Bible" singers provide vocals for FANNY CROSBY. FANNY CROSBY will be shown Sunday at 7:00 pm at Cullowhee Covenant Church, located in lower Cullowhee, next to Subwich. There is no charge as everyone is encouraged to experience this film. Cullowhee Covenant Church is a trans- denominational church which welcomes believers of all backgrounds. Doubtors are welcome too.
