Hie workshop «ill be at Meredith College in Raleigh on April 4. 1981. Research Triangle Institute (RT1) will conduct the workshop under a grant from the National Science Foundation. Applications to attend must be received by December 5, according to RTT workshop director Carol Place. According to Place, about 250 women will be selected. They will include unemployed and underemployed women scientists and college senior and junior women majoring in science, mathematics, engineering or social science. Postage-paid applications are available from North Carolina college and university offices of continuing education or career planning, or from RTI in the Research Triangle Park. Place said workshop sessions will be conducted by women scientists from industry and universities. Leininger To Speak Dr. Madeleine Leininger, a nationally recognized nursing educator, will give a lecture on "Caring: Its Meaning and Function to Nursing" at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in the auditorium of the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville. The lecture, which is open to the public free of charge, is being sponsored by Western Carolina University's department of nursing and Visiting Scholars Program. Dr. Leininger is a professor of nursing at the College of Nursing at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She also serves as an adjunct professor of anthropology at the university. Her educational background includes a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1965, a master's degree in psychiatric nursing from Catholic University of America in Washinton, D.C., in 1954 and a master's degree in nursing administration from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., in 1952. Dr. Leininger earned a diploma in nursing from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Denver, Colo., in 1948 and a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., in 1950. She has studied extensively in the area of transcultural nursing and health care and has published numerous articles on these topics. More recently she has focused her attention on the caring behavior of various cultures with plans to publish her findings for use by nurses and other numanistic health care personnel. Sickle Cell Clinic A Sickle Cell Anemia and Hypertension Clinic will be held at the Community Services Building in Jackson County on Monday, November 17, 1980 at 7:00 p.m. SICKLE CELL is most common in Blacks in the U.S. However, it can occur in others-people of Spanish Greek, Italian, Turkish, Asiatic and Indian descent and people who originated from the Mediterranean area. Mr. Janice A. Inabinett, Sickle Cell Consultant from Black Mountain, North Carolina will be the guest speaker. This screening clinic is being sponsored by the Jackson County Health Department. Thesis Exhibits Two Western Carolina University graduate students in art, Judy Collier McManus of Sylva and Terance K.
