  • News Page 8 From page 7 Security Director Frank Blackmon, said was taken overthe _ weekend of October third and fourth between 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Although the building was locked at the time, whoever took the tapestry did not break in because men were working in and around the building over the weekend. It is assumed that someone walked into the building at a most appropriate time while the workers were busy, but at press time no details or clues are known about the theft. The tapestry is eight feet by three feet with dark blue warp threads, a white border, white design and the theme women with nylon rope. The theme consists of tenls and a moon along with a fringe border. Entitled Arabic Moon, it was designed and constructed by a local artist who can positively identify it. A reward of $100 is offered for information leading to the recovery of the tapestry and/orthearrestand conviction of the person(s) responsible for the theft. After all the practice (ungraded papers) there will be a review of the finished product(graded papers)." Some of the main errors Belcher has noticed over the yearsare a lack of focusand organization, combined with the fact that many students simply don't know what they're supposed to do. "It's not enough just to assign and criticize. Most bad papers are just first drafts that need to be strengthened." Belcher went on to explain that students often do not understand the process, and that he is here to "helprecognize flaws in the process." The general principles Belcher favors include doing important papers in multipledrafts, gettingfacultyand peers involved in the writing process (and acknowledging their help on paper), and having most writing assignments go ungraded after givingappropriatecoachingand ad vice. In essence. Belcher is here to help make college education more realistic. He wants to re-define writing as a whole, and "point out the rewards in store" in writing with a goal-oriented approach. Belcher stated that students should take pride in their finished material. PHONE (704) 586-8588 Open 11 a.m. — 8 p.m. — Monday — Saturday Located in RIVERWOOD SHOPS — Dillsboro, N. C.
