The fourth freshman. Vincent Walker, is doubtful for the game. However, through all this adversity thc Catamounts have still been able to string together twelve- straight home victories and all four freshmen have been vital in keeping the Cats in the first division of the Southern Conference standings. The best example of this came last Monday night in the final two overtimes of Western's win over Furman. In the first overtime Quentin Moore fouled out with 1:21 and the score was tied at 78. During the second overtime- Pat Sharp fouled out with 3:5 I left and the score tied at 80. Catamount fan's hearts stopped when star Quinton Lytle went down with a slight injury and Western went down by four, 84-80. But it was Chris Tipton, a 6-9 rookie from Burnsvillc. NC, who responded, first with a short jumper from the paint and then a free throw to pull Western within one. After a Furman player made a shot on the foul line, it was Lytic back in the game to make a spectacular three- point play and put the Cats up for good. 86-85. Herman Sims of Furman threw upan airball with five seconds left; it was Tipton there again to grab the important rebound. He was immediately fouled, but like a seasoned pro, he stepped to the line and sunk two shots to ice thc game for Western. 88-85. Coach Steve Cottrell says he feels good about what happened in Reid Monday evening. "Our backs were to the wall and our freshmen responded well." Respond they did: in addition to Tipton's play down thc stretch. Richard Rogers had 10 points and 6 rebounds, and while Brian Brunson failed to score, he- did an excellent job playing defense, and bringing thc ball up thc court when both Moore and I vtle were on the bench and the pressure lane, who will be plav ing in was most intense. their last game in Reid (iym. Let's hope Western can and the "fab four." the use the combination of the Catamount freshmen, to senior leadership by Moore, pull out a win against Sharp, and Mike MacLar- Marshall.
