  • THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Saturday, September 28,1957 Your Student-Faculty Co-operative Government The Student Union Activity At The Student Union The Student Union Organization Was begun during the 1955-56 school year. It was realized at the time that persons connected with the College needed more leisure- time facilities for their enjoyment. The Organization operates under a constitution, approved by the Co-operative Student - Faculty Government, of which it is a constituent unit. Students, faculty and alumni are members of the SUO whose purpose, according to its constitution, is "to promote the social and recreational needs of the campus." At present the Student Union Building is open from noon to 10:30 pjn. Monday through Thursday, noon to 11:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Activities include ping pong, pool, cards, checkers, chess, television, dancing or just relaxation. A hi-fi phonograph is also available for special occasions. The lack of space in the building prevents the addition of more facilities at the present time. This will be done when and if more space is made available. Probably the biggest event sponsored by the Student Union during the year is "Mountaineer Month," usually held during January. The event is culminated with a dance where prizes are offered to the boy with the best beard and the girl with the best mountaineer costume. Other events included dances (both round and square) and tournaments. Activities are planned by a Student Union Board, composed of representatives of the various dormitories and the Day Students, plus a president and vice-president elected by the entire student body. Gene Ellis, a senior from Kings Mountain, is president this year and Bill Taylor of Black Mountain is vice-president. t^frEl Introducing tt*r*r.-v ■■•*■■■*■ - *r-?/- CTJu3© Saturday Late Show Sunday and Monday "Bernadine" Pat Boone Sunday and Monday October 6 and 7 "The Girl Can't Help It" Jayne Mansfield and Tom Ewell Tuesday and Wednesday October 1, 2 Rock Baby Rock // Tuesday and Wednesday October 8 and 9 "The Seventh Sin" Eleanor Parker Thursday and Friday October 10 and 11 "Lizzie" Eleanor Parker Saturday, October 12 Double Feature "Apache" Burt Lancaster Satellite In The Sky" Thunsday and Friday October 3, 4 "Attack" Robert Ryan and Aldo Ray BAXTER WOOD, vice president of the Student Body.
