Phi Mu's Strive To Succeed Ihe goal of Phi Mu on Western Carolina's campus is to exceedits past achievements. Being a Phi Mu means contributing oneself to the organization that is already established and being a part of the many active ingredients that make up Greek life. Phi Mu's won the title of All Campus Sorority in lntramurals. They were partners with the Kappa Alpha Order in a 48 hour Softball Marathon for Project Hope and M uscular Dystrophy. We also contributed to Special Olympics, participated in Pike's Peak, and Lambda Chi Alpha Raft Race. We held the Faculty Tea for the professors on campus. We sponsored a number of fund raisers that consisted of car washes, carnation sales, pumpkin grams, and raffles. A few of the sorority functions which aided others were a hot chocolate study break for all sororities, a singing at Skyland Care Center. and contributions to a family in Jackson County that suttered a great loss Phi Mu's are proud to have had two girls on Homecoming Court, two Theta Xi Sweethearts, two Pi Kappa Alpha Dream Girls, and a number of little sisters to Fraternities. Also Phi Mu has had the honor of attending three Fraternity Socials: Kappa Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, and lambda Chi Alpha. Phi Mu Sorority is not all work nor all play; it is a variety of individuals in one group which allows them to reach out to each other as well as those around them; whether in times of trouble or just for fun. All that Phi Mu offers is what one wants from it. A sorority is a sisterhood and by doing things together Phi Mu hopes to keep its bond of sisterhood stronger than ever. Zeta Tau Alpha Zeta Tau Alpha holds the key to making the most of your college years. Within a close and sincere sisterhood there are opportunities in all areas of college life. In an atmosphere of love and friendship Zetas grow toward more fulfilled lives. Zetas know that it takes a variety of talents and interests to realize our potential as a group. We are active in SGA, band, chorus, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor ' Society, Catamount Kittens, and other campus clubs and organizations. We can be found working at WWCU and on the court winning tennis matches for the tennis team. Zeta Tau Alpha is a chance to work within a group and . still retain your individuality. In addition to our individual pursuits Zeta Tau Alpha is active as a group. For the past four years Zeta has won Best Homecoming Float, Sorority Division. We participate in the Lambda Chi Alpha Kidnap, Mountain Heritage Day, intramurals, and many other campus events. At Christmas we hold a Christmas Dance and exchange gifts. In the spring our major functions are Delta Zeta Being a Delta Zeta means becoming involved. It means participating in intrmurals, entering a float in the Homecoming parade, selecting outstanding departments each month, assisting in the campus phonathon, and showing spirit with a winning pep rally skit. It means enjoying ourselves at our biggest social event which is the Rose Ball, when everybody leaves for a weekend party in Gatlinburg or some resort center. We have it in the spring so that our new pledges can go. It means friendship with other Greeks, delivering valentines and observing Founder's Day for each fraternity, sending Christmas cards to each sorority, winning in Pikes Peak, and supporting our local Panhellenic. Being a Delta Zeta means striving to maintain high scholorship and winning the two Panhellenic Scholarship Awards for sororities this year. It means delivering food baskets to families at Thanksgiving, making donations to the Heart Fund, supplying hearing Crown Ball, the Spring Picnic, and State Day. Zeta Tau Alpha stresses scholarship. A 2.0 QPR is necessary for initiation. This year our scholastic achievements have been recognized with awards on both the state and campus level for having the most improved scholarship. Support of our national philanthropy, the Association for Retarded Citizens,is a special concern. Each holiday the Zetas give the children of Killian Annex a party which everyone enjoys. Zeta Tau Alpha annually sponsors a carnation sale at Valentine's Day with proceeds going to ARC. For our many service projects Zeta received the state award for outstanding service. These are a few of the things that have made Zeta Tau Alpha the most outstanding sorority for spring 1981, fall 1981 and spring 1982. It is our belief that through the encouragement and support of a unique sisterhood we can foster the growth of strong, well-rounded individuals. Zeta Tau Alpha offers you the key.
