  • Entertainment 11 March 4, 1982 WCU Honor Band Weekend by Laura Hunt The 1982 WCU Honor Band weekend was a fitting follow-up to the Western District All-State Band Clinic two weeks ago. Commander William J. Phillips, officer in charge and leader of the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C, led 110 very talented high school musicians through two days of intensive rehearsal which ended with a concert Sunday at 2 p.m. These musicians were selected from over 200 nominations from high school band directors. Most were chosen trom North Carolina, but schools from South Carolina and Georgia were also among the 34 represented at the workshop. Ihe \isitors were again hosted by the members of WCU Bauds who housed, entertained and performed for them. Ihe University Wind Ensemble gave an outstanding performance Friday evening which featured Robin Dauer as horn soloist in the "Adagio and Allegro" by Donald Haddad. James Buckner repeated his earlier performance of William Barker's "Concerto lor Cornet, flugelhorn and Trumpet." but limited himself to the trumpet movement in the interest of time. Commander Phillips led the ensemble in a piece by Percy Grainger called "Children's March." to page 12' TKE Boxing Matches This action took place in the grandroom of Hinds University Center as the Annual TKE Boxing matches got underway.
