  • Western Carolinian/ August 24, 1982 WCU Grants by JOEY MILLER According to Glenn Hardesty, at the Financial Aid office, over 6 million dollars was awarded to WCl students receiving financial aid in the fiscal year 1980 through federal and state funded aid programs. The office has not yet received a copy of the 1981 budget; therefore, no figures could be given. Hardesty stated that 68.5% of the students at the university received some type of financial aid. Hardestv also said that through his records he could "clearly identify" who all ol this money was allocated to. The following table shows the figures iven by Hardesty. The average amount received p. Hardesty said that the total amount of funding used for work study, loans and grants totaled $6,932,039 and was given to 4425 students in 1980. This averages out to $1566.56 per student per year. Many students may not be aware of their eligibility to receive Financial Aid. Still others may not be receiving as much money as they are entitled to. Keep in mind that the figures given here are based on the '80-'81 budget.
