Dedication of Evans Notch Road. Drive to Cold River Forest Camp. Through Passaconaway and Bear Notch to Bartlett Experimental Forest, a 2,500-acre field laboratory of Northeastern Forest Experiment Station, and return to Mount Washington Hotel through Crawford Notch State Forest Reservation. This program and accompanying speeches were part of the “Silver Jubilee,” a celebration of the passage of the Weeks Law in 1911. This was a 25th anniversary celebration held in 1936. The Weeks Law was considered to be “a milestone in the nation-wide conservation movement.” The law allowed the federal government to purchase private land to create national forests in the eastern U.S.
