In this letter of April 30, 1865, Solomon "Sol" Franklin Bogart (1837- 1915) writes his "Dear sister," Martha Misemer, to share the devastating news that the steamer he and her husband, H. M. Misemer, two of their brothers, Levi and Harison, and most of the neighbor boys has exploded the morning of the 27th. He shares his experience getting to safety and lets her know that he has checked all of the hospitals and has not found her husband or brothers. The Sultana is considered the deadliest maritime disaster in history.
