  • Feb. 28 1935 Dear Leonard The “package” came yester- day; nothing could have pleased me more. Unless it was the letter that came with it. Many thanks for both. It has been fine to have so much news from Washington lately. It was such a long time I was left in the “outer darkness”, it made me feel deserted. The darkness is still absolute so far as [Mum] is concerned. One letter + a picture of the boys at Christmas time is all I have heard directly since I left Chappaqua. His, George’s, probation period is up the Last of March. Have you ever read “The Spell Of the Rockies” by Enos A. Mills. It is not so especially well written – he repeats to quite an extent – but it thrilling. Nancy wrote to me about the C’s. You probably know that Mr. + Mrs. Coburn were killed in an auto accident some time ago. At my request Mr. Fingar wrote to Mr. Stearns For any information he could give me About your father’s affairs.
