Mr. MCNAMEE: Gentlemen of the Committee, with the consent of the Committee, I think it would be well to read over the Memorial to Congress A question as to how many acres it would comprise. Mr. McN: a little over a million acres. We think the best land for the lines within bounday we have outlined; there would be no big bill of expense to care fot it. A statement has been made to the effect that this is the most valuable tract of virgin forest inr both a National Park and Forest Reserve. Most of this is quite a distance from the railroad, Q. How would the Government derive any benefit from it: ? Mr. McNamee cited his views on Scientific Forestry Experiment, matiured Stated that when the trees a re gnran and have attained their growth, they are not going to grow any more, and are cut. Of course, these are the largest and most valuable trees and it is well to move them. Showed some photographic views giving information as to dimens ions,awl etc. Trees that have attained their greater maturity are taken i«t out and sold and th * forest keeps constantly growing. Contains oak, tulip and poplar. This last a most valuable substitute for pine.
