  • Copy, JOINT RESOJNRRION. rio provide for the appointment of a Commission to investigate: and ;report upon the meet desirable area in "Matern North Carolina for the establishment of National Park and forest Reserve to be known as the Appalachian National Par*, Be it enacted by the Senate and Mouse of Represent* eives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled, Sec. 1. That a commission consisting of three Senators, to be appointed by the President of the Senate; five members of the Mouse of Representatives, to be appointed by the Speaker; and seven members to be appointed by the President If the United States, be, and the same is hereby, created to visit that part of the Appalachian System of ^fountains located In Western North Carolina and East Tennessee and inspect the izarious sites (in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, the Balsam Mountains and the Elack& Craggy ..ountains) that seem to be most desirable for the location of a National Pahs and Eorest Reservation, t< s the Appalachian National Park, and to cover an area of not less that five hun- Ired thousand acres and not more that one million acres. Sec. 2. That the Commission shall have in view not only the establishment of a great National Parle in the East to ri- /al the Yellowston National Park in the West for scenic bean*- ty and national recreation, but also for the protection of [forests aid Read waters of great water sources in the great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains, Sec. 3.
