  • At this point Mr Smather* ai*o se and said: Mr Chairman, a3 I suppose ttiuta there is no further business before the convention, I am sure we would all be pleased to hear from Senator Marion Butler, of North Carolina. There were calls for Senator Butler, who a-.ulressed the convention as fo»lows:- Senator Butler's Address. Gentlemen of the convention, while this is rather unexpected, still I am very glad to be present wixh you here today, for I am heartily and thoroughly in sympathy with you and your efforts in establishing a national park, I am in sympathy with the purposes and nature of this meeting. Nature has all it could for this region of A. the country; nature has filled it with beauty and at Tactions of every kind. It will take but little to preserye it in all its grandeur and very little to add to it. It remainsfor us to preserve this fine feerxxvtfiixi: section of our country in all its virgin beauty.It is true that all who have visited this section admire the scene|fry and the climate, and it is true that nine, of ten of these visitors A or, perhaps, ail, are in sympathy with this national park movement, bux there are a great many people who have not been here and do not know this region. These people will have to be enlightened as to the claims of thil section for preservation in a nation park. Those who have been to Western BrsKacfcinxxx North Carolina know something
