HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, WASHINGTON <"- C.P.A.— 2. y In my five years of service in congress I have secured for my district u two hundredand fifty thousand dollars more in approjoriations than all the Senators and Members of Congress from the whole state since the state was organized. Senator Pritchard ought to ammend his bill, and call it The Mckinley National Park and Forest Reserve, and maku the other changes so as to have his bill read like mine. He j^ust also addathe state of West Virginia. I have not discussed this matter with Senator Pritchard. "The Stickers" that I desire, are for The McKinley National Park" instead of the"Appalachian Park". I don't suppose your association would be willing to furnish these. I would be glad to hear from you at any time with any suggestions you may desire to make. Yours truly,

This series of letters has to do with legislation proposed by the by the Appalachian National Park Association. On January 4, 1900, the association submitted a Memorial to Congress; on May 25, 1900, a bill passed authorizing funds to investigate the possibility of a national park; several states passed resolutions in support of the park; in January 1901, President McKinley expressed support of the project. Although the organization had success early on, their efforts met with resistance and the organization disbanded in 1905.
