  • Dec. 12 1938 Dear Leonard - In spite of weather which made hard going, everyone arrived at 95 in time for dinner. In spite of air mail & special delivery, your agent did not arrive until Fri. a.m. It — or he? — was just as welcome & appreciated as if it had been on time. Margaret sent a poem & the Oregon branch a fine letter. So, we were all there. The Monday before was a gorgeous day. Lucy came in about 10:30 A.M. & wanted me to go to Boonville at once. (We had planned to go Wed. P.M.) She telephoned to B. to meet us in Cazenovia which she did about three P.M. This going 48 hours before schedule upset my plans as to closing the house, helping out Julia etc. but we are all alive. Then the Fernows went directly on to Buffalo for the week end & I was left in Boonville For two weeks, instead of two days “as planned.” That too did not lay me & while I enjoyed being with B. & the girls, it did upset me quite a bit, but as you can see, even so life remains with me. The Fernows expected to be in Boonville for supper. At 6 o’clock Karl telephoned from Rowe that they were supping there & would be with as soon as the going permitted. That was at 8:30. The Errol Birds were to get the R.B’s dining table in place in time for dinner at 1. The table had been stored with them since the
