January thirtieth, 1901. Prof. J. A. Holmes, Chapel Hilif.Nfl^C. My dear Mr. Holmes: - Your favor of the 28th inst. pist received. I have noted what you said In regard to being careful as to placing news paper articles and wish you would explain a little more fully. Do our Washington friends think that we have been in-discreet in the past9 The. only article we have sent to the press since last;-:) July is the Presidents message, Secretary Wilson*-s letter and the bill now pending which was presented by Senator Pritchard. I fail to see why they should fear that we would *over-do in that direction". Plea.se explain, Y'zvy truly yours, F.N.H,

This correspondence addresses the possibility of hosting a banquet for U. S. representatives in 1901. Although members of the Appalachian National Park Association did travel to Washington D.C. to meet with members of Congress, it appears that this banquet was never held.
