Lumber Two Modern IV\ni>-S\y Mills are operated by the (Champion Fibre < !o. In the purchase of timberlands, foi the supply of pulp wood, it WW necessary to eon al large areas which contained a considerable quantity of the best quality of hardwoods peculiar to the Southern Appalachian Mountain Range section, and this company is now manufacturing and marketing these hardwoods, consisting largely <>l red oak, poplar, chestnut, basswood, maple, birch, ash, ete. High-Grade Spri <i , in limited quantities, is also prepared for the lumber market. The Smokemoni Mill produces about 45,000 feel per day of lumber, and in pulp wood and lumber combined produces a total of 100,000 In i The Waynesville Mill saws about 25,000 feel <>! lumber per day and prepares a like amount of pulp wood. "Champion Brand" I aimber is unsurpassed in quality.

“Glimpses of the Plant of the Champion Fibre Co., Canton, North Carolina" was published in May 1922 as a souvenir booklet. The 38-page booklet provides photographs, descriptions, and processes of the paper plant in Canton. Already a major manufacturing center, Champion Fibre was pictured on postcards early in the century. With its expansion in 1922, Champion Fibre may have been the largest paper plant in the nation, employing over 1,000 men.
