A few more lines you wanted to know whether I got the medicine you sent me or not. I got it all but I have never used any of it yet. Number 6 is about 50 cents an ounce hear. Don't send the paper and pens except they are a good deal cheaper there and you have a good chance. Get the Washington medalion pen, you will see them words on the pen. Loss Ervin is hear this morning from VA going on home. Wm. Jones is well, Tolliver is not very well. He is complaining some. Make corn and wheat for it will fetch money at any price. I want you to gather a good deal of medicine this coming spring for I may come home some time next spring to help get up a company and you might get in as a Company Doctor, but dont say nothing about any of this to anybody certain. Write soon and let me have all that is chering. G. J. Huntley

In this short letter of February 3, 1862, G. J. Huntley writes home that he received the medicine, but didn’t use any of it. He says that he may come home in the spring to “help get up a company.” This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
