  • A deeper search would have helped you understand bettor why men in all walks of life, who knew him well, found that ICephart's strength outweighed the fault upon which you have dwelled. You might have understood better why the press eulogized him, editorially and in extensive news coverage at the time of his death. You might have understood better the reason for Secretary of the Interior Wilbur's statement when accepting the deed to some of the park lands - a statement that you have generously included at page 160: "I wish that I could name every one of the men and women who have worked devotedly to see this new national park como into being, but I am sure you will join me in appreciation of the persistent and idealistic interest of Mr, Kephart, who not only knew those mountains and loved the people, but saw in them a •great national resource.,, It is not to the credit of any author if his writings magnify, disproportionately, either the faults or the virtues of a man. Nor do such writings destroy the true imago of that man. Sincoroly, "S&eorge S, Kepliart Mr, Michael Fromo C/o Doubloday & Company, Inc. 27?
