Oct. 31, 1938 Dear Mama, Halloween already! Doesn’t seem possible. Christmas just around the corner and no money. Seems very natural. Two weeks ago we went to Cleveland for the week-end and saw Buddy. He nearly fell thru the phone when I told him who it was. He had to work all day Tuesday but came to the house about ten o’clock, on his way to the drug store, for a few minutes. The store where he works is just a short distance from the Smalls and they have been in it frequently!! He does

In this letter of October 31, 1938, Cornelia writes her mother Laura Kephart to tell her about her trip to Cleveland to visit her husband’s side of the family, the Smalls. While there she visited with her nephew Buddy, Leonard’s son, and asks that Laura pass the letter onto Leonard and suggests that he visit the Smalls when he’s in town next time.
