C„ In viaa or the importance of the. establishment of tha proposed Appalachian forest Reserve in connection with the perpet- uation of a >upply " hardwood timber in this country and as a means of demonstrating by the Govarnmant what o«n be done throu$n the application of sound nathoftg Ifl lha management of such forests this Convention expresses its appreciation of tbe aid which practical lumbermen have extended in promoting this measure, and it respectfully, asks the officers and members of the grant lumber associations of this country to farther co-operate actively in securing the favorable and prompt notion of fongress on the measure now before it.

This 19-page series of documents includes resolutions proposed at a convention sponsored by the Appalachian National Park Association and Asheville Board of Trade. Held on October 25, 1902, the meeting promoted the idea of a national park in the southern Appalachians. Two weeks prior to the event, the Asheville Citizen ran an article noting that “A Hundred Towns and Cities Are Asked to Take Part.” Indeed, the convention was a success with 1,500 people from various states attending.
