Brief Biographical Sketch of Miss Frances L. Goodrich

  • wcu_craft_revival-1431.jpg
  • This brief biographical sketch summarizes Frances L. Goodrich's early work in the mountains of North Carolina. The sketch gives basic biographical data about Goodrich's life prior to coming to the western North Carolina mountains in the 1890s as a part of home missions work for the Presbyterian Church. It briefly describes her work in the Brittain's Cove community in Buncombe County, but gives more information about her administration of the mission station in the Laurel and Allanstand communities of Madison County, and about the creation of the Allanstand Cottage Industries. While the author of this biographical sketch is unknown, it was apparently drafted for Goodrich's nomination by the Asheville Civitan Club as a candidate for the National Contest of the Exposition of Women's Arts and Industries, possibly during the 1920s or 1930s. The sketch appears to be incomplete.
